The Reading Roses Book Club

Reading Roses:
Empowering Minority Girls Through Literature

Reading Roses is a targeted reading initiative dedicated to closing the racial achievement gap in Alachua County. Our mission is to elevate minority students' literacy skills, ensuring they read at or above grade level in English Language Arts. Through tailored support and engaging programs, we strive to empower students to become proficient readers.

Join our vibrant Reading Roses Book Club, designed to inspire girls and foster a lifelong love of reading. With a diverse collection of over 60 books featuring African American characters, we offer a rich literary experience that resonates with our participants. Through lively discussions and activities, girls develop critical thinking skills, learn to analyze literature, and express their thoughts confidently.

Participation in the Reading Roses book club goes beyond reading comprehension. It cultivates social skills, encourages respectful dialogue, and fosters a sense of belonging within a supportive community.

Girls not only improve their literacy but also gain valuable insights into different perspectives and cultures through the stories they explore together.

Our Achievements

Our efforts have yielded remarkable results. We secured funding for essential resources like "The Dear Black Girl: Equip, Empower, and Enlighten," expanding our library and inspiring countless young readers. Personalized messages from authors further enhance our girls' engagement and appreciation for literature.
